News Release: Binghamton, New York. Sep. 4, 2013 – Modern Marketing Concepts, Inc. is seeing early success from its unusual sales training initiative that hires and trains sales representatives, then provides an opportunity for them to work for their clients’ organizations.
Called STEP, for Sales Training & Education Program, this three-phase initiative is open to all company sales representatives. Its focus: provide individuals with the skills necessary to effectively sell medical technology, pharmaceuticals, advanced wound care, diagnostic testing, and remote cardiac services.
“It’s certainly atypical for sales/marketing companies like ours to invest in training, and then encourage the individual to pursue a career at a client company,” said Dan Babcock, company Founder and CEO. “We’re committed to providing our clients with solid, mutually beneficial relationship; sales/marketing insights; and help them achieve the outcomes they require. The program focuses on hiring innately talented salespeople, and then puts them through a rigorous, client-approved, multi-topic training regimen. Should the rep succeed, MMC offers its client the opportunity to interview the employee and, if there’s a fit, hire that person directly from MMC.
“It’s a three-step process,” said Phyllis Whiting, MMC’s Director of Healthcare Training. “We provide on-the-job mentoring, and focus on skills training, as well as client-specific and industry-focused training.” Once this hurdle is passed, the sales rep is enrolled in MMC’s Healthcare University – a series of courses that provides more in-depth sales knowledge. “The individual has the opportunity to become certified as a Registered Medical Sales Representative, sponsored by the National Association of Medical Sales Representatives,” said Whiting. “This certification provides an advantage in the highly competitive medical sales field,” she noted.
Since the program’s start five months ago, two MMC employees have moved into healthcare client companies. One graduate summed it up:
